Perfection and symmetry, religion and artistry are the words for this Madhubani or Godhna painting.
What binds all Godhna paintings by a thread of unity is symbolism. Fishes are associated with fertility and procreation in Indian iconography. The Maithili or Madhubani people believed the fish to be holy and gave it a divine intervention symbolically associating it with love. Infact the ethereality of the fish can be traced back to Hindu mythology where the Machya (fish) Avtaar of Lord Vishnu is talked of.
The most appealing factor of this Madhubani painting is its perfection and symmetry with the underlying symbolism. Fervent intimacy leading to procreation is depicted by the harmoniously knitted fishes which are drawn in pairs – four pairs of entwined fishes. The intricate patterns on the fishes, the leafy background and the use of contrasting colours make it more detailed and impressive.
Symbolically perfect and artistically grand would be the words for this elegant Madhubani painting. Available with frame.
ARTIST: Ambika Devi, a national award winner.
