Originating as a welcome painting denoting luck, this Madhubani painting portrays two decorated elephants, the symbol of good luck itself.
The belief prevailed among all Madhubani people that the Gods invisibly visit every family each morning blessing them with prosperity. The folk art form of Madhubani painting started as a welcome painting for the Gods. Elephants, being a symbol of luck and strength, are an interesting theme for the Maithili painters.
Intricately decorated elephants, surrounded by trees and flowers. Black is used as a symbolic warding off of evil. Intricate design on the top is done to fill up the empty space. The elephants are seen guarding the tree, the symbol of life and nature. Vibrant colours, the essence of Maithili painting, are used depicting traditionality and intensity. Triangular designs on the double line border fencing the painting supports the main theme by denoting balance.
A wonderful decorative piece, a traditional good luck painting.
